ABOUT Us

We started with one truck and a simple belief: the people going through life’s hardest transitions deserve more patience, more respect, and more care than a typical cleanout company offers. One of our first jobs was helping a family clear a beloved grandmother’s home after decades of memories — furniture, keepsakes, and a lifetime of belongings that meant something to someone. We didn’t just haul it away. We listened, we sorted carefully, and we made sure what could help another family did.

Before starting Legacy, Kevin Traub spent years working in industries that moved fast and cared little about the people or communities behind the work. What would it look like to bring that same energy home — to the families, seniors, and neighbors right here in Northeast Ohio, during some of the most emotional transitions of their lives?

Today, Legacy Downsizing & Cleanouts exists to meet the needs of our local community with compassion first. We built our team around the belief that everyone deserves a second chance — whether that’s a family starting over after a loss, a senior beginning a new chapter, or a team member rebuilding their own life through steady, meaningful work.

A DONATION-FIRST PHILOSOPHY

After months of seeing how much of what we removed still had life left in it — furniture, dishware, tools, keepsakes — we started asking a different question. Could we do more than simply clear a space? What would it look like to build a model that keeps usable belongings out of landfills, meets real needs in our community, and still keeps our services affordable and dependable?

Many companies in our industry talk about being “eco-friendly” or “donating to local nonprofits.” In practice, that often means donation only happens when it’s convenient — when the partner organization is on the way to the next job, when they’ll take everything being offered, and when the crew has the time and energy left at the end of a long day. More often than not, convenience wins, and usable items end up in a landfill anyway.

We wanted to build something different — a company with the space, partnerships, and commitment to make donation the default, not the exception.

OUR SPACE & OUR GROWTH

What began as a single truck and driveway has grown into a dedicated facility where we store, sort, and distribute belongings to local donation partners across Northeast Ohio. This space allows us to hold onto items long enough to find them a genuine second home, rather than rushing decisions at the end of a job.

As we’ve grown, so has our vision — expanding our partnerships with local shelters, charities, and community organizations, and continuing to invest in the people and neighborhoods we serve.

THE WORK WE DO

Much of what we help families navigate isn’t easy. The loss of a parent. A senior leaving behind a home full of memories. An estate that needs to be settled with care and urgency at the same time. Overwhelming clutter that’s built up over decades. These are hard, human moments — and we treat them that way.

Today, we operate with a committed team who genuinely cares about the families and individuals we serve, backed by strong partnerships with local recycling facilities and charitable organizations across the region. Our commitment to sustainability and community has helped divert hundreds of thousands of pounds of usable belongings from landfills, all while giving people a second chance — both the families we serve and the team members who serve them.

OUR COMMITMENT TO YOU

Thank you to every family who has trusted us with the belongings, memories, and transitions that matter most. It’s because of that trust that our team can do meaningful work every day, supporting their own families in the process.

We look forward to being a steady, compassionate presence in Northeast Ohio for years to come — and hope to serve your family, or someone you love, during whatever transition comes next.

With care,
Kevin Traub

OPERATING PRINCIPLES

The principles that guide every decision we make, every job we take, and every person we hire.

COMPASSION

Most situations our customers are in are lowlights of their week, and not all items we haul are “junk”. Some represent decades of memories, feelings, and emotions. Our aim isn’t just to get the job done, but to care for the family or individual through our words and actions along the way.

REDEMPTION

It’s our responsibility to look for opportunities at 2nd chances for people, places, and things. What newness can come out of this? Is there an opportunity to impart a new sense of hope?

WORK HARD AND WIN, ONLY AS A TEAM

We do hard work, and we do it well when we do it together.

FOCUS ON THE GOOD, BEAUTIFUL, AND TRUE

There’s no shortage of negativity to be found in most situations. We have a very limited supply of thoughts we can spend in any given day though. We aim to find what is good, what is beautiful, and what is true, and choose to amplify it instead.

GET BETTER EVERY DAY, INDIVIDUALLY

Nobody else can get better for us.

BIAS TOWARDS ACTION

Don’t wait for the next person to handle it. If we see something that needs done, do it.

TRUTHFULNESS

Every lie told creates a false reality that everyone else doesn’t know they’re living in, but an honest answer is like a kiss on the lips! We aim to speak the truth in all we do — good or bad — then deal with it soberly.
